This section consists of 2 parts:


Part 1 are monuments that are located within walking distance in the very heart of the historical region of Kursk.


Part 2 is dedicated to monuments that are situated much further, but still commonly encountered by travellers.

A young man in love, with a bouquet of flowers flies through the wall, apparently in a hurry for a date.


There are shops nearby, clock on the top, benches to sit while waiting, and babushki selling flowers nearby.

K.D. Vorobyov


Famous Writer who wrote more than 10 novellas, as well as short stories and essays. Just two of them as examples:

"Slain Near Moscow" ([Ubity pod Moskvoi], "Убиты под Москвой", 1963);

"In One Breath" ([Odnim dykhaniyev], "Одним дыханием", 1948, published in 1967).

Now an integral part of the urban landscape and a local landmark.

Was erected in honor of the 200th year of the great Russian poet.

Nike


A sculpture of 8-meter-bronze figure of the Goddess of Victory holding a palm branch — a symbol of peace installed by helicopter 2 theatrical masks made of white stone at her feet.


Symbol of victory of the Soviet Army over Nazi Germany in the battle of Kursk in 1943.


On the roof Drama Theatre named after A. Pushkin.

Partner Cities of Kursk


19 signs are directed towards the partner cities having special relations with Kursk.


The concept emerged after the World War II in the countries allied to the anti-fascist movement.

E.I. Zelenko


During the air battle, Lieutenant

E. I. Zelenko’s plane was attacked by 7 fascist enemy planes. She managed to shoot down one, but her Navigator spoiled, and her plane caught on fire. The brave pilot made a heroic decision by directing her burning plane towards the enemy’s plane and exploded in the air.


She was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

N.N. Aseev


Famous Russian and Soviet poet who was from Kursk.


Enacted during the celebration of his 125th anniversary.

G.F. Panteleev & Participants of The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945


Panteleev was a lawyer, and a Hero of the Soviet Union.


Behind the bust are four granite slabs with 76 names of other heroes from among the Prosecutor's employees.

Antonovka


The sort of apples that represents as the symbol of the fertility of the Kursk land.


Believed that the first Antonovka appeared in the Kursk and Tula provinces, and later spread across Central Russia.

A.Ya. Nevsky


A key figure of medieval Rus
canonized as a Saint of the Russian
Orthodox Church (1221-1263).

1.In 1933 the monument was erected on Red Square by the population of Kursk.
2. But during the Nazi occupation, the monument was destroyed.
3. Only in 1956 it was restored and stands strong until this day.

Nicholas Church, later destroyed in the

60s.


A tribute to the event of "first launch of a satellite" by the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957.

Symbolizing the friendship of the peoples of Russia and Armenia.

F.A. Semyonov


Scientist, meteorologist, astronomer, inventor, mechanic who had no formal education.


The first hereditary honorary citizen of the city of Kursk (1794 – 1860).

Kursk Root Icon-Mother of God


The arch of a memorial dedicated to the miracle-working icon, 700 years since the Icon was found at the root of an oak tree on the Bank of the Tuskar river near Korennaya Pustyn.

Members of the Komsomol


The memorial sign to the "Kursk Komsomol citizens" who fought on the fronts of the great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.


A cube, one side of which is decorated with a relief depicting young soldiers going to the front. On the other side, is a relief depicting a sorrowful line of maiden figures. Both sides are united by a sculpture of a mother who inspires the children to be courageous.


Installed near the KSMU hostel 2 and the square between Yamskaya and Perekalskogo streets.

Memorial Complex "In Memory of The Fallen in The Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945"


Here lies the soldiers who died bravely in battle or of wounds in Kursk Military hospitals.


The center of complex is the "Obelisk of Glory", next to the "Eternal Flame" is lit.


Data indicate that more than 2,900 soldiers and officers are buried at the memorial.

1984


Seaman of The APRK "Kursk"


On August 12, 2000, a tragedy in the cold waters of the Barents sea. During an exercise, the torpedo missile exploded, killing all 118 sailors and officers.


The submarine sank 108 meters belowe sea level. Only 11 bodies were recovered after 15 months of searching.

Colonel Perekalsky


Fatally wounded but he did not leave the battlefield, skilfully commanded his division and died on the same day.


Yamskaya Gora street was changed to Perekalsky square in his honour.


He was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.

Fighters for Soviet Power


In memory of the historical event that took place in the walls of the cinema "Giant" that once — existed there.


1917, Soviet power was proclaimed here in Kursk, representatives of the Soviet of workers, soldiers "and peasants" deputies gathered in the cinema to join forces for a revolution.

The Crew of The Battleship "Novorossiysk"


A memorial to the sailors who died in 1955, due to a mine explosion which claimed 600 lives onboard. Among them 13 were Kursk citizens.


After the explosion, water rapidly entered the ship and caused it to sink.

Revolutionists


After the revolution, this space became

a burial place for the heroes of

the revolution, party and Soviet workers.


Monument was erected on the burial site of the heroes of the revolution and the Eternal flame was lit.

Established as a sign of human gratitude to animals that give their organs for

the manufacture of medicines.

Yuri Nikulin & Mikhail Shuidin


A unique Duo of clowns who worked together for more than 30 years, depicting a famous scene from their act, "Horses".


The monument is decorated with an inscription: "To the soldiers of the great Patriotic war, to the brilliant Russian clowns Yuri Nikulin and Mikhail Shuidin".

Dedicated to the Kursk Afghan soldiers.


The granite slabs bear the names of citizens who died in duty in Afghanistan.

A Russian revolutionarist of Polish origin, a Soviet political figure, the head of a number of people's Commissars.

The founder of VChK (All-Russian emergency Commission for the fight

K.M. Blinov


Commander of the T-34 tank of the 119th tank battalion of the 103rd tank brigade.


Organized an ambush on the frontline road of Pokrovskoe village. He attacked a German military unit and damaged 60 cars, 16 guns, 8 tractors, 17 motorcycles and up to a company of enemy manpower were destroyed.

The bronze monument was from Germany.


Until 1994, it stood in front of the Soviet Embassy in Berlin, and brought to Kursk.

To mark the 85th anniversary of the birth of the famous Kursk folk singer, people's artist of Russia.

B.P. Dyojkin


Famous Soviet animator, a native of Kursk.


First monument to a prominent figure of Soviet animation, a legend of the "Soyuzmultfilm Studio".

You may watch one of his works here. It's an animated film based on a story for children "Le avventure di Cipollino" by Italian writer Gianni Rodari.

Head of a Military band, started playing

at the age of 4.

At 5, he was already composing music.

He mastered the piano, clarinet, and oboe.

A.M. Gorky


Alexei Maximovich Peshkov, born in Nizhy Novgorod, primarily known as Maxim Gorky.


Soviet writer, founder of the socialist realism literary method, and a political activist. He was also a five-time nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Place Where Saint Seraphim Of Sarov Fell


A 7 year-old boy who is later a saint, fell from the Sergievo Kazansky bell towers, but had not suffered any injury, not even a scratch.


The miraculous event took place in 1761.

Dedicated to the battle of Kursk.


Consists of Church of St. George the

victorious, Triumphal arch, surmounted by an equestrian figure of the Saint patron of warriors, the bronze monument to General G.K. Zhukov, granite

gravestones of the "Unknown soldier".

Famous Kursk sculptor who is even responsible for numerous sculptures in Kursk.


It depicts him sitting down to rest for a minute during his work.


His own son created this sculpture.

Tribute to Military Drivers who

Died During The Great Patriotic War


On lake Ladoga, Nazi troops destroyed

more than 1000 vehicles and many went under the ice with their drivers.
